Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)

  • An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation of a child’s educational needs that can be done by a Licensed Educational Psychologist or credentialed professional who is not employed by the school district.

  • If you, as a parent, disagree with the results of the school’s evaluation of your child (for example, for special education services), you have the right to ask for an IEE. This means you can have your child tested or assessed by someone who works outside the school system. The school may pay for this evaluation in certain circumstances.

  • The goal of an IEE is to get a second opinion about your child’s learning or behavior needs. The results can help you and the school make better decisions about the support and services your child may need.
